Tiny lemur discovered in Madagascar forest. “A new species of mouse lemur has been discovered in eastern Madagascar, report researchers from Germany. […] At 68 grams (2.4 ounces), Gerp’s mouse lemur is “a giant” relative to Goodman’s mouse lemur, a species found in nearby Mantadia.” Exciting!

Sapient - The Red Ones Are The Best… (via)

Lemurs
Are a clade of strepsirrhine primates
Endemic to the island of Madagascar
They are named after the lemures
The ghosts or spirits of Roman mythology
due to their ghostly vocalizations, reflective eyes, and the nocturnal habits of some species […]
There are ninety-seven species of lemur in the world

Remembering them all is a bit of a test
We love them all, oh yes we do
But the red ones are the best

A very silly metal song about all the species of lemurs in the world. Have a listen!

Extinct Large Sloth Lemur - Palaeopropithecus ingens
The large sloth lemurs (genus Palaeopropithecus) were one of three recently extinct genera of sloth lemur that was found on Madagascar, and were closely related to living lemur species found there today. There were three known species, Palaeopropithecus ingens, P. maximus, and P. kelyus. New radiocarbon dates indicate that the large sloth lemurs may have still been living around 1500 CE. It is thought that Palaeopropithecus ingens is mentioned in Malagasy legends as the tretretretre or tratratratra… (read more)

MONKEYS!!!!! This was an art project I had to do. We had to pick a creature and draw seven variations of that creature. I chose monkeys (although baboons and lemurs aren’t technically monkeys). Made with colored pencil.
